Objectives of the Course HIST 651 requires students to have a critical understanding of primary sources on the seventeenth- and eighteenth century Ottoman Empire and to identify central themes and discussions in modern scholarship.
Course Content It prepares students for their research project by developing a framework based on the relevant literature, sources, and historiographical discussions.

1 Throughout the semester, the students will read and analyzes various primary texts related to the seventeenth and eighteenth century Ottoman history and historiography.
2 After taking this course, the students will be able to identify their strengths and weaknesses in current historiographical debates and develop a plan to improve academically.
3 The students will deeply engage in secondary literature to follow the trends and debates in modern scholarship.
