Objectives of the Course
|
The main purpose of this course is to give students the ability to analyze in depth the basic principles, sources (guidelines, statutes and justice jurisprudence) and basic application areas (distance contracts, unfair conditions, defective goods, consumer credits) of European Union (EU) Consumer Law. In addition, by comparatively examining the similarities and differences between Turkish Consumer Law and EU Law, it is to enable them to understand the evolution and interaction of legal regulations.

Course Content
|
In the course, the historical development of the legal framework in the field of consumer protection in the EU, basic legal tools and the decisive role of the Court of Justice (CJJ) will be examined. The main topics will be unfair terms in contracts, sale and guarantees of defective goods, distance contracts (e-commerce), package tours, consumer loans and payment services and the resolution mechanisms of consumer disputes (ADR/ODR). In addition, the effects of EU legislation on Turkish Law will be discussed.

It is possible for students to ensure success in this course with course attendance, active participation, preparation and delivery of assigned assignments within specified times and timely presentations. Applying to academic resources in the preparation of assignments, using libraries and databases, and paying attention to citation methods will increase success. During the preparation of assignments, students who need help with subject determination, content or presentation method can request help through an interview or e-mail during office hours.
