Objectives of the Course Deepen students’ knowledge in clinical psychology are by using psychopathology (1.1) Evaluate disorders by consider social, cultural and ethical values. (3.2 & 3.3.2) Improve their knowledge about diagnoses and differential diagnoses. (1.1 & 3.1.1) By using the most up-to-date work DSM-5, develop students’ knowledge about each psychiatric disorders and their sub-disorders (1.1) and allow students to present their knowledge in verbally, orally and visually. (2.1 & 3.3.1) Using their theoretical and practical knowledge at the same time via case studies. (3.1.1 & 3.2 & 3.3.1)


Course Content In this module students will study specifically the history, classification, causes and treatment of psychological disorders. They will critically examine the dispositions and contributions of psychological, biological, and socio-cultural factors to the expression of psychopathology across the lifespan. The unit considers the historical context of psychopathology and of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) before considering in detail anxiety disorders, mood disorders, substance use disorders, schizophrenia and psychosis, eating disorders, sexual dysfunction and gender dysphoria, personality disorders and cognitive disorders. Ethical and legal issues relevant to the provision of mental health services within the Turkish health system will be covered.
