Objectives of the Course
|
This course is a beginning level (A1). It presents the standard Arabic phonology, morphology, and basic syntax. The course presents the four skills (reading, listening, writing, and speaking). The students learn how to present themselves and their family and communicate simply with their environment. By the end of the course, the student is expected to have learned the basic vocabulary related to self, work, family, greetings, numbers, weekdays, colors, and names of things in the close environment, as s/he can produce simple or memorized sentences.

Class Norms/ Expectations Attendance-Participation Students should keep a consistent attendance. If the student is 10 minutes late s/he will be considered absent The students are expected to use their absence right in high emergency situations. The maximum number of medical reports is 2 reports. Re-Grading The student can ask for re-grading by applying formally to Student Affairs. Use of Mobile Devices and Laptops Not allowed, except when the teacher asks students to use it for a learning purpose. Student Recording of Class Not allowed Academic Integrity If the teacher figures out that the student is submitting an assignment that belongs to someone else, or was accomplished by someone else, the student will get zero for this assignment. If the student submits for the second time an assignment that belongs to someone else, or was accomplished by someone else, s/he will be sent to a disciplinary committee. If the student is caught cheating in the exam s/he will get zero, and will be sent to a disciplinary committee. Assignments The student is going to submit 10 basic weekly assignments. The student is going to present one presentation at the end of the semester. All the assignments are going to be assigned on Canvas at the beginning of the semester. The student cannot submit the assignment after the due date. The assignment that is not submitted by the due date will be scored zero (0). The answer key will be provided to students after the due date of submitting the assignment immediately. The student can submit the assignment after the due date if he proved that he had a medical situation that prevented him from completing the required assignment. The student shall provide a justification and a medical report within 2 days after missing the due date, otherwise the justification and the medical report will be considered void.
