Dersin Amacı	This course aims to explore the theory and concepts centrral to the sociological study of religion in modern societies.
Dersin İçeriği	In initial stage, methodological and theoretical issues in this study field will be sketched. And developmental stages of sociology of religion will be dealt, in particular, taking into consideration of the socio-political changes in Western Europe. Students will be guided to discuss the theoretical aspects of sociology of religion. Religion as a sociological research object will be scrutinized in modern and post-modern societies pertaining to its place and function and its relations with other social institutions. In addition, this subject will also open the doors to understand the multiple modernities particularly in the eastern nations. In regard to this, the processes of various societies will be dealt in a comparative approach. The place of religion will be an inevitably taken into consideration in all these discussions as well. Since the regaining prominence of the discussion upon the revival of religiosity as a social force in various societies, it has become an inevitable subject to challenge secularization and modernization.

	Sınıfın Kuralları: Katılım-Katılım: Bu kursa katılım zorunludur. Dört haftadan fazla devamsızlık yapan öğrenciler derste başarısız olacaktır. Kabul edilen devamsızlık sınırları içerisinde kalan öğrenciler notlarını kaybedecek, devamsızlık yapılan her hafta için devam yüzdesinden 2 puan düşülecektir. Elektronik Cihazların Kullanımı: Dersler sırasında öğrencilerin sadece not almak için dizüstü bilgisayar kullanmalarına izin verilmektedir. Tüm internet bağlantıları ve diğer görsel-işitsel bileşenler kapatılmalıdır. Derse diğer elektronik cihazların ve cep telefonlarının girmesi yasaktır. Dersler sırasında cep telefonlarının tamamen kapatılması veya sessiz moda alınması gerekmektedir. İşbirliği ve İntihal Dahil Akademik Dürüstlük Akademik dürüstlük çok önemlidir. Öğrencilerin, yazma merkezinin veya diğer uzmanların yardımıyla (İngilizce yazma becerilerini geliştirmeye ilişkin) makalelerini yazarken işbirliği yapmalarına izin verilir. Öğrencilerin cevap kağıtlarını ve araştırma makalelerini kendi düşünceleri ve sözleriyle yazmaları gerekir. Başka bir kaynaktan alınan fikirler veya pasajlar, uygun yerlerde tırnak işaretleri kullanılarak ve dipnot veya alıntılar gibi uygun referanslar kullanılarak belirtilmelidir. Öğrenciler bu tür eylemlerin sonuçlarının sorumluluğunu üstlenmeli ve intihalin büyük bir akademik suç olduğunu bilmelidir. İntihal yapan öğrenciler bu dersten 0 puan alacak ve başarısız olacaktır. Geç İtiraz Politikası: Öğrencilerin ödevlerini teslim tarihlerini takip ederek zamanında teslim etmeleri beklenmektedir. Son teslim tarihleri ??ve son tarihler için uzatma garantisi yoktur.

	Attendance and Participation: Students must come to class having done the readings. Reading each material and participation in class discussions are compulsory. Students are assumed to share their ideas with other students with mutual respect. They are expected to be active participants in the class and must submit their assignments through online on time.
