Dersin Amacı This course will give a thorough outline of the subdiscipline of the field of sociology of crime and deviance through a close review and discussion of the literature which includes case studies carried out in the field using various theoretical frameworks for analyzing the phenomenon of crime. Drawing heavily on Stephan Hestor and Peter Eglin’s book, Sociology of Crime these theories include, amongst others, the state and correctional criminology, functionalist views of crime , social constructionism views of crime ,symbolic interactionist views, ethnomethodology and conversation analysis interpretations, Marxist theory, and finally analysis of Power in Poststructuralism and postmodernism. The students will be required to present material both individually and in groups.
Dersin İçeriği Define core ideas, concepts, and problems relevant to the sociology of crime and deviance Learn about important historical changes in ideas regarding crime and deviance and the impact on society/societies. Compare ideas and ideologies of crime and deviance across societies. where are the similarities? What are the significant differences? Find and critically examine additional literature and explain its significance and relevance to the topic of sociology of crime and deviance.

1 Understand and analyze the major sociological discussions regarding the sociology of crime and deviance
2 Demonstrate an ability to think critically and create well-structured and evaluated arguments regarding the material and literature including the sociological theories that underpin discussions of crime, which have been presented in class.
3 Offer critique, or support for some of the most well-known treaties on crime and deviance
4 Gain an understanding for critiquing the taken for granted discussion of deviance and crime. Critically analyze how the changes in society impact on these ideas as well as critically examining changing of these ideas on society/societies.
5 The student can create a relevant topic for their final paper and research outside sources through careful evaluation of that source and analysis of its arguments.
