Objectives of the Course The aim of this course is to provide the students with a comprehensive understanding of childhood psychopathology based on the biological, cognitive, systemic and developmental theories.
Demonstrate knowledge of the key concepts, assumptions, and principles associated with the developmental psychopathology perspective.
Employ a broad range of criteria for differentiating between normal and abnormal development in children and youth.
Identify multiple factors and processes associated with the onset and course of a range of problems and disorders experienced by children and youth
Demonstrate knowledge of evidence-based intervention and prevention techniques in treatment of childhood psychological disorders.
Course Content This course will focus on the etiology, epidemiology, phenomenology, nosology, and diagnosis of the common mental disorders of the childhood and adolescence. Students will be provided with a critical review of common psychopathology and of what constitutes "normal" versus "pathological" behavior, cognition, and emotion. Subject to the number of students enrolled, there may also be an opportunity to observe the evaluation of a child or adolescent patient by a psychiatrist in a clinic.
Course Methods and Techniques The lectures will proceed with online presentations. The lecturer will enrich the course with his own clinical experiences.
