Objectives of the Course The objective of this course is to give students a thorough understanding of the role of money and banks in the broader economy and of the unique role of banks in the financial system. Students will also learn the relevance of the Central Banks in the economy and the fundamentals of Monetary Theory. The course will also discuss the causes of and policy responses to the recent economic and financial crisis.
Course Content This course aims
1. to introduce the concepts of money, monetary policy and financial crisis.
2. to deliver the issues of banking, financial markets.
3. to build the skills of measuring interest rates and understand the risk and term structure of interest rates.
4. to demonstrate how to analyze a bank balance sheet, money supply and money demand
5. to promote students to read, contemplate on discuss pieces from the related literature
6. to encourage students to convey their arguments related to the functioning of financial markets, monetary policy and banking system through written assignments and oral presentations.
